At Andy Mountain, we pride ourselves on our rich history proudly set in the beautiful state of Iowa. We trace our history all the way back to the 1940s when Bob and Mae Daubendiek purchased 65 acres of land and began clearing the property.
In 1962, the Daubendiek’s only child, Andy Robert, tragically passed away while working the land. The next two decades were devoted to honoring the memory of Andy by completing the property development; which became known as Andy’s Mountain.
The property consists of a fountain, an overlook of, Andy Mountain Campground and the Mississippi River along with other memorials that were dedicated to the memory of Andy.
In 1974, Lawrence and Phyliss Krueger bought the property and took care of it until 2000. We, Robert & Debra Vavra, purchased it. When we purchased the property we began to expand and improve the property; including updating the electrical system, sewer system, and other infrastructure. In 2007, we added the cabins to the property.

Today, Andy Mountain Campground is home to 48 seasonal sites and 5 log cabin rentals. The property has become a wonderful get-away spot for families and friends to gather and enjoy the natural beauty that is found in the heartland of Iowa. We look forward to expanding in the future and continuing to provide campers in Iowa with a peaceful place to vacation and appreciate the beauty found in Northeast Iowa.
